Proclamation
The Marathi Speaking Union was set up by the Marathi Speaking Union Act 2008 and came into operation on 1st July 2009 by proclamation No 14 of 2009 and stands guided by the Marathi Speaking Union Act no.22 of 2015 and operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage

Vision
The Union aims at becoming an inspiring body of Excellence for the promotion and consolidation of the Marathi Language in all its form at National and International Levels.
Mission Statement
To develop the Marathi Language as a dynamic and functional language and to render it more accessible to the Mauritian Society.
Objectives
The main objects, among others, consist of promoting the Marathi language in its spoken and written forms; providing facilities for exchange programmes, scholarships and social interactions between the Union and other organisations at international level; and promoting and encouraging the linguistic development among all people having an interest in Marathi language with special emphasis on its cultural, artistic, economic and social perspective.
